We're in the final stages of wedding planning. Instead of taking it easy, we're going camping this weekend with Jake's cub scout pack! At least Martin & I have Friday night without kids to finalize the ceremony. You can see more at www.nov10wedding.com.

Camping was a lot of fun. We got there about 2 p.m. and took a Texas Cruise with the rest of the Den (Den 3, Pack 166). The camp out was at Canyon of the Eagles where there is the potential to see a Bald Eagle. There were none on this particular cruise be it was fun and relaxing riding on the boat for the 2 hour trip.
After the cruise we found our campsite that we shared with one other family. John and Ben Lammers were there from the previous night and since our designated spot was a little crowded we found a good spot one site over with them.
Jake and Sydney found a good spot for putting the tent up, making sure the area was clean of rocks and large sticks that would make the site uncomfortable overnight. Then the went to work on a fire. Something they both really enjoy doing.
Courtney and I set up the tent lickity split (don't you just love the tents with the fiberglass poles). Those of you who have been camping with me before or even heard me talking about camping have heard me say how incredibly easy it is to set a tent these days. Cause back in the olden days we had 1 inch aluminum poles that often came apart if the wind picked up.....and they were a pain to store and put up or tear down. I can't help it, I'm just so impressed with the tension poles that are used these days. Kids have it so easy! :)
So back the the camping trip....After the fire was roaring, and we didn't even have to use gasoline, we started dinner. It was hot dogs and chips. I know pretty impressive huh? We also had marshmellows and coacoa. Lots of chit-chatting and enjoying nature. The kiddos had so many friends and it reminded me of when I was in scouts and the trips that we took. Lots of fun and late nights. Which kindof confused me about our scouts on this trip. They actually went to bed early. Huh? Well reasonably early, around 10 p.m. But not before we took in a owl watching shortly after dinner. We hiked up the road about half a mile where there was an amphitheater. (for those of you who were wondering has a latin and greek origin, and comes from the root amphi meaning both or dual) At the amphitheater we called owls and much to my surprise some actually showed up. The bird call was on tape and very effective at attracting the Eastern Screech-Owl.
After the owl watching we came back to camp for more hot coacoa and snacks then went to bed.
In the morning we starting out by having breakfast, a short church service with the rest of the scouts that wanted to participate and a short hike.
But before the hike we got to pet snakes. I forget the type of snake but it was really cool for the kids.
It was a short trip but definitely a good one. For the kids they got to play with friends and for us, it gave us a chance to spend some time and not think about wedding preparations. :)
6 days.....
